第一部分内容：基础知识
◆fail既可作名词也可作动词，意思是“不及格”。
eg：You will fail in French if you don't work hard.如果你不努力，你的法语考试就会不及格。
I just failed my English exam.我英语考试没及格。
【拓展】(1)fail to do sth.或fail in doing sth.表示“未能做到某事，做某事失败，未履行”。
eg：He failed to catch the exam.他考试没通过。
(2)fail 的反义词是succeed，常与in 连用，意思是“成功，达到目的”。
eg：I succeeded in getting that job.我成功获得那份工作。
◆give up意思是“放弃”，既可以单用，也可以后接名词、动词-ing形式作宾语。
give up指行为者碰到某种困难或原因而自己主动放弃；give in指行为者屈于某种压力被迫按别人的要求去做，侧重于屈服。
eg：They decided to give up their plan.他们决定放弃计划。
His mother gave in and bought him a new toy.他母亲拗不过他，给他买了一件新玩具。
◆accept意为“接受”。可以表示接受某些抽象的东西，如想法、表扬、批评、道歉等。
eg：I accepted his friendship.我接受了他的友谊。
【拓展】receive意思是“收到”，不一定接受。
